Old Bridge Volunteer Emergency Medical Service is ALWAYS in need of volunteers

Choosing to join a squad is a personal decision, but most people join for the satisfaction of knowing that they can make a difference in the life of another. Members stay on the squad for the friendship, the sense of community, and the fun that comes from volunteering.

 Who can join?

No previous training is necessary to join. Anyone over the age of 16 can join the squad. Since riding members need to be on call for only one shift per week, we attract members from all walks of life.

What types of memberships are there?

  • Senior Active Members are at least 18 years of age, are licensed EMT's and have been probationary members for at least 6 months.
  • Probationary Members are at least 18 years of age. They are the most recent additions to the squad and they respond to first aid calls together with at least two experienced senior active   members.
  • Junior Members are between the ages of 16 and 18. They ride fewer hours per week and act as supplemental members to a crew.
  • Auxiliary Members are those who wish to help out but, for whatever reason, do not want to become EMT's. They help in recruitment, fundraising, and squad functions.

What kind of training is provided?

Members receive free CPR training and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) classes, as well as continuing courses.

What kind of uniform and equipment is provided?

Members will receive squad shirt, pants, summer and winter jackets, rain jacket, coveralls, and a dress uniform. Members will also receive squad identification card and a pager so you may respond from home.

How much time do I need to commit?

Members volunteer once a week, either during the weekdays or weekends. Weekday crews are on call from 6pm to 6am and weekends are on call from 6am to 6am. While on call, members usually respond from the comfort of their home or from any location in Old Bridge. We are flexible if you need to split your time between days. Junior members will ride from 6pm to 10pm on weekdays and from 6am to 10pm on weekends.

What benefits do members receive?

Though the most significant benefit is the satisfaction of helping others, there are many perks to being a member of the Old Bridge Volunteer Emergency Medical Service. These include the following:

  • Free Training
  • Free Equipment
  • Free Uniforms
  • Free Disability Insurance
  • Free Retirement Program (Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) stipends)
  • Community College Tuition Reimbursement
  • Scholarships
